Tour Highlights

Most people think of K-pop and a strong IT Industry when they think of Korea. But have you noticed that Korea is a country with thousands of years of history and a racially homogeneous population?
If you are international traveler, you might realize that Seoul is a rare city with hundreds of years of history. You will see high-tech right next to thousand-year-old tradition. Palaces are the one of most popular historical places to visit. The Chosun Empire ended in 1910, while Seoul was the capital of the Josun dynasty for some 500 years. There are 5 important palaces that you don't want to miss and they're the most popular destinations for visitors.
When you hear the word, “palace,” what's your the first thing you think of? Is it a place for kings and noble families? That's a fact, but only part of it. You will discover where kings and families lived with 2000 people and ruled whole nation. Only parts of the palaces remain which makes many people believe they were only for the king and his family. However, the palace was a place for important discussions on how to rule the country. The palace was like a huge company running a big organization, a nation state where 2000 people are worked together. Most people now think of the palace only as a place for the king and his family, due to the modern city development.

After the second world war, the royal family of the Korean empire became normal, average people and there was no more empire. All palaces belong to the Republic of Korea. Does your country have a king and family? Do you still have a palace for them? There's no more king and family in Korean society, but most Koreans all remember them and their history as they are all an important part of history even though it wasn't happy ending.
There were 2 big important functions of the palace. “Kweol” is where all governors, ministers, scholars and king got together for important discussion and made decisions. “Koong” is located in the center of the palace is where king and his family stayed. You can enjoy more if you understand that the whole palace was designed for efficient communication with people who visited or stayed in the palace. There are places for politics, a living area for the king and family, and gardens. Take a close look and experience how all the functions and locations were designed and connected. There are 5 palaces in Seoul. Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changkyeong-gung, Gyeongungung(Deoksu Palace), and Gyeongheegung.

Eastern Asian palaces are noted for the generally common design characteristics of “naturalism” and “humanism,” but the philosophy behind them and representative style elements are different in each country.

We really enjoyed the tour. It started and ended on time. Our tour guide was wonderful. She spoke good English without the accent most Koreans have when speaking English. During our whole trip, she was the most fluent person in English that we encountered. She really knew the facts too and she was extra helpful. She helped us search for the other places we wanted to visit.
