Tour Highlights

Highlights - Hangang
Spanning more than 310 miles (500 km) at about 0.62 miles (1 km) wide, the Han River (Hangang) is one of the most important rivers in South Korea. As a top tourist destination, a warm or even brisk day affords you the chance to explore the well-groomed pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths. Take the kids with you as visitors and locals alike enjoy the soothing ambiance of the river beside while jogging, fishing or just hanging out in one of its many cafes. If you are so inclined you can even jet ski.

Hangang Park also has playgrounds, if you just want to sit and relax while the kids use up some energy. Unfortunately there are no real restaurants, but it's still a great place to picnic with the family or a loved one. One of the more popular things to do here is to take a boat cruise for a relaxing ride around, or for special occasions, boats can be booked for a night time soiree.

There are several subway lines crossing the river, depending on where you are and where along the river you want to go. For a lovely nighttime stroll, get out at the Yeouinaru Subway and go directly to the Cascade shown on the directional map at the entrance of the park. Otherwise, if you are looking for a little exercise, you can rent bikes for the day for about $5 at a few easily accessible locations that also offer drop-off points.

Built in 1394, 100 years before Columbus first set foot on the American continent, Gyeongbokgung Palace is the main palace among the five palaces representing the 600 year history of Seoul where the last emperor of the Chosun dynasty stayed. There are two different parts to the palace, Naejeon(inner court) where the emperor and family stayed and Oejeon(outer court) for politics and governing.
Geunjeongjeon is the throne hall where the king formally granted audiences to his officials and made declarations of national importance. Sajeongjeon is the executive office where the king or emperor carried out his executive duties and held meetings with top government officials. Gangnyengjeon is where the king’s bed chamber was located. Gyotaejeon is for queens and Jagyeongjeon was the only royal residence for the late queens. There are so many parts designed for different functions and different residences in the palace, so the palace wass not an single building, but one big area with several sectors or towns.
There are also many interesting architectural elements. For example, Haetae is an imaginary animal which is known as a spiritual and mysterious being that jumps on a person who did something wrong, and butts him with its horns.
You will learn more interesting stories and secrets of the Chosun dynasty and palaces with a Cosmojin guide.
